Home Insurance: Insure The Roof Over Your Head
2 min readIf you value your home and like living there in comfort then you should have some form of home insurance cover, home insurance is basically like a blanket protection system where both the structure itself and the contents within are insured to prevent loss or damage.
Whilst contents and building insurance are two different areas of home insurance it is often cheaper and more convenient to get both together leading to full protection of your home. One supplier is even offering free contents insurance when you take out building insurance for however long you can last without needing to claim, once you have made one claim then you start paying for it.
For many of us we hopefully will never have to make a claim on home insurance as in general most homes are not at any significant risk but interest in home insurance, especially buildings insurance has raised dramatically over the past few years with the widespread problem of flooding in many counties in the UK.
This increase has lead to many people both taking out protection policies and also having to claim against them, in some instances insurance companies have struggled to cope with the amount of claims that they receive, such as late last summer when many counties in southern England were hit by freak floods.
Contents insurance is a more common form of home insurance that we’d be familiar with, when someone has something stolen like possessions and appliances such as TVs and Video Game consoles then typically you would get a crime report filed and then use that to substantiate the claim to your home insurers.
So when buying a new house remember to arrange home insurance at the same time as you’ll be able to live in the safe knowledge that whether a storm causes damage to your home or someone breaks in whilst you’re away then you’ll be covered and can return your home to it’s original state in no time. Compare that with being left to foot the bill yourself and you’ll soon see how important home insurance really is.
